Mark Daley is a foster-turned-adoptive dad, author and one of the country's leading voices on recruiting foster parents. His memoir, Safe: A Memoir of Fatherhood, Foster Care, and the Risks We Take for Family (Simon & Schuster, 2024), tells the story of how he and his husband, Jason, became parents through foster care, and what that journey revealed about a system that too often fails the families it is meant to protect.
Mark founded TheFosterParent.com, and through his firm, Daley Solutions, he uses data and targeted online outreach to help more than 100 agencies find foster homes, reaching more than 35,000 families. He speaks to child welfare leaders, judges and court staff, and foster and adoptive parents nationwide, and has appeared on ABC's The View, NPR and C-SPAN.
Before foster care became his life's work, Mark spent two decades in communications and public policy, including as a communications director for Hillary Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign, and founded One Iowa. He lives in Los Angeles with Jason and their three children.
Approved for use with coverage of Mark and Safe.
Every day, about 700 children enter foster care in the United States. Safe is the story of two of them, and of the two dads who said yes: an honest, often funny and sometimes heartbreaking look at love, loss and a system that too often fails the families it is meant to protect.
